Introduction

T

he main purpose of this website is to demonstrate a simulation model of the Wyoming Criminal Justice System (WCJS) using an agent-based modeling approach. Our ambitious goal is to create an interactive modeling tool that helps policymakers with performing policy analysis. Output from the model provides policymakers with additional information to make informed decisions on the best use of limited resources.

T

he pilot version has been designed with limited input parameters and monitored variables in order to demonstrate the concept within the constraints of data availability. As such, it is the simplest model capable of the desired analysis and is meant to serve as a platform for future extensions. The future versions of the model can potentially include more parameters and thus produce more accurate results.

T

his model attempts to simulate the movement of offenders through WCJS. You can use the sliders to change the model’s input parameters and observe the effects of your changes on the system in the graphical displays.

T

he pilot model was created by the Wyoming Survey & Analysis Center with grant funding awarded by the Bureau of Criminal Justice department.
