The largest of WYSAC’s subunits, the
Center for Health and Education Studies (CHES) conducts evaluation research to inform funding decisions and policy making, particularly concerning public health, substance abuse prevention, school/community collaborations, student outcomes, and higher education. Through its Environmental Studies Group, the CHES also performs policy analysis of environmental quantity, energy resources, and outdoor recreation. The CHES helps public health agencies, non-profit groups, and university researchers in developing evaluation designs and in collecting, managing, and analyzing data. Services include statistical analysis, interpretation of findings, report writing, needs assessments, and assistance with grant applications and grant management.

Center for Information Technology Services (CITS) at WYSAC specializes in developing Internet and Windows-based software solutions. Using cutting-edge technologies, the CITS creates quality software products tailored to the needs of clients in the public and private sectors. The center’s staff has extensive experience with IT project management, systems analysis and modeling, database programming, Microsoft .NET-based software development, and graphic design. The CITS also maintains a reliable and secure IT environment that supports all WYSAC operations. The IT infrastructure includes centralized storage and data backup, dedicated servers for files and database applications, optical recognition software linked to two high-capacity scanners, and a modern call center for computer-aided telephone interviewing.

Through the
Center for Justice Research (CJR), WYSAC serves as Wyoming’s federally-certified statistical analysis center for criminal justice. The CJR studies corrections, the judiciary, domestic violence, drug and alcohol usage, gun violence, juvenile justice, and similar topics. Depending upon the client’s needs, the CJR collects original data, performs comprehensive program evaluations and analyses of administrative records, uses advanced methods of data analysis/mapping, and/or conducts qualitative research. These services assist state and local officials, academic scholars, and law enforcement professionals to make informed policy decisions.

Survey Research Center (SRC) is the oldest of WYSAC’s subunits, with more than 30 years of survey experience. The SRC’s survey methodologists provide assistance to government agencies, private businesses, non-profit organizations, and the university community on research design, data collection, data analysis, and interpretation of statistical results. The SRC conducts surveys using a fully equipped facility for computer-aided telephone interviewing and optical scanning of mail questionnaires. The SRC also has extensive experience and expertise in conducting focus groups, Internet surveys, and in-person interviews. Services range from writing questionnaires, scientific sampling, and pre-testing of survey instruments to survey administration, data entry, data analysis, and presentation of findings.
