With experience in survey research dating to 1972, the Survey Research Center (SRC) was officially established as a unit of the University of Wyoming in 1989 and has been a key component of WYSAC since 2004. . Researchers at the center collect, manage, analyze, and report data to inform planning and funding decisions. SRC exists to meet the data needs of:
- Federal policy makers
- Local governments
- Non-profit groups
- Private businesses
- State agencies
- University offices, faculty researchers, and student organizations.
SRC facilities include specially designated areas for our call center, our equipment for handling large scale mail surveys, and for our scanning operations. The SRC’s technological infrastructure includes WinCATI software from Sawtooth for computer-aided telephone interviewing, a fully equipped call center with 20 stations, computer servers for hosting internet surveys, and Cardiff Teleform software for creating scannable paper-and-pencil questionnaires with two high-speed Panasonic scanners for processing the returns. For the deployment of online surveys we use Qualtrics, a state of the art web-based software, which secures efficiency and cost effectiveness alongside highest-levels of scientific rigor. Specifically for mail surveys and notification letters, the SRC is equipped with a folding machine for professional presentation of folded documents, an envelope sealer, an envelope opener, as well as an envelope printer for direct database addressing of envelopes to help with error reduction, all of which contribute to increased efficiency of managing high-volume mail surveys.
Through the SRC, WYSAC is a charter member of the Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations. SRC also subscribes fully to the Code of Professional Ethics and Practices of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. Confidentiality of respondent information is always a top priority.
